Araujo "Eiseles Vineyard"

Every once in a while you get a chance to experience something which is truly unique. And, every once and awhile something typical can take on extra-ordinary characteristics. If these two elements came together and are nurtured with expert care and constant dedication the product can truly stand alone as something special.
The wines made from Eiseles vineyard by the Araujo family fall under this most unique of categories. The vineyard has been in production since the early 1880’s and has consistently demonstrated that it contains the elements requisite for wines of distinction. The Araujo family acquired the vineyard in 1990 and immediately began extensive renovations including building a new winery and wine caves.
Knowing that there was something special about this little plot of land protected by the Palisades Mountains, the family continued to relentlessly pursue the highest standards of excellence from farming to fermentation. This attention to detail, along with commitment to organic and biodynamic practices, has been both a hallmark and a foundation upon which the Araujo family have built their reputation.
The wine itself is memorizing. It fills the glass with a velvety allure which captures ones full attention as it moves with silky elegance. On the nose it hits one with such ferocity of flavors both floral and rich that I found myself startled before the wine even touched my lips. Yet, with all it’s intensity one can sense layer upon layer of subtle nuances that change and evolve between every sampling of its exotic aromas.
The delicate richness of the flavors brings to mind a rich confection of red fruits, honeysuckle and rose. It moves across the tongue with a will of its own, warming every corner of the mouth with its sumptuous radiance. The finish slowing leaves successive layers of rich earth, delicate oak notes and dried fruit.
This wine speaks to what wine can be. It is in a word, the archetype of varietal, terroir and winemakers skill.
Should you have a chance and the time requisite to truly appreciate a moment which can be accentuated by a wine of this caliber, there are few others I could recommend higher.
